South Bend Common Council Celebrates Establishment of Lafayette Falls Neighborhood Association.
Tonight, the South Bend Common Council has formally recognized the establishment of the Lafayette Falls Neighborhood Association, marking a significant step forward in civic engagement and neighborhood leadership for residents of the Lafayette Falls subdivision. The recognition took place at the South Bend Common Council Meeting in the new City Hall building where councilmembers Sherry Bolden-Simpson (5th District) and Dr. Oliver Davis (councilman at large) presented the resolution.
In Special Resolution No. 2026-02, the Council commended the newly formed Association for its commitment to strengthening community connections, promoting neighborhood safety, and enhancing quality of life for residents. The resolution notes that the Association held its inaugural meeting on March 11, 2026, drawing more than 30 residents to celebrate the launch of the organization and appoint its inaugural board leadership.
City leaders also acknowledged the important role the Neighborhood Association will play in advocating for residents on key issues affecting the community. Among the concerns highlighted in the resolution are neighborhood safety, speeding and stop-sign enforcement, construction traffic, and long-term access challenges tied to the subdivision’s single official entrance and exit on Kern Road.
The resolution further recognizes progress already underway through collaboration with the City of South Bend, including increased police patrols in response to safety concerns, plans for a turning lane on Kern Road to improve traffic flow, and the development of a dedicated construction access road to reduce the impact of heavy vehicles on neighborhood streets. It also expresses hope for a future second permanent entrance and exit to better serve the growing neighborhood.
By adopting this resolution, the South Bend Common Council not only celebrates the creation of the Lafayette Falls Neighborhood Association, but also affirms the value of resident-led leadership in building a safer, stronger, and more connected community. The recognition reflects confidence in the association’s ability to represent neighborhood interests, foster collaboration, and support the continued well-being of Lafayette Falls and the surrounding South Bend area.
